Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is a complementary therapy based on the use of natural essential oils taken from plants, flowers, herbs etc. The use of essential oils goes back to at least 2000BC, with evidence first being recorded by the Ancient Egyptians who used to combine plant aromatic substances for incense religious purposes.
The oils- with their therapeutic properties, are used in massage, aromatic baths, inhalations and compresses, which help restore balance in the body naturally. Aromatherapy helps to combat the stresses and strains of modern day living.
Scientific research has shown that there are three basic routes by which oils are absorbed into the human body. During inhalations and massage the vapours are inhaled; the lungs absorb the essential oil molecules. The skin absorbs the essence. The effects of the oils travel around the body for several hours. Some of the oils will stimulate the circulation, others will relax or have antiseptic effects upon the body.
