An Introduction to Ayurvedic Massage
Ayurveda literally means ‘the science or knowledge of life’.
Indian Ayurvedic treatments have been used for over 4000 years to prevent many ailments and help maintain the body in perfect harmony.
Experience a massage which is unlike any other – Ayurvedic massage treats not only the body but the mind and soul too, to create an inner peace, which will help to maintain good health – remember prevention is always better than cure!
When the body is working in harmony it is said to be sattvic or at peace, but often external or internal stresses may alter this sattva.
Ayurveda believes that each person has a Dosha. This is a specific bodytype, and there are 3 – Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Each body can have a constitution of one, or a combination of two or three doshas.
We are born with a genetic dosha or Prakruti, however, when environmental or emotional stresses affect us our dosha alters to become Vikruti or manufactured.
During massage some or all of the 107 Marma or vital pressure points around the body are treated. These are found where any of the 5 major organic structures meet or cross and include the joints (sandhi), muscles (mansa), ligaments (snayu, bones (asthi) and vessels (sira).
In these modern days of stress and so many different prescribed / over the counter drugs, why not try a natural method of obtaining optimum health?
